Looking For That Perfect Transition Piece?

Shopping for clothing and accessories can be difficult. Finding a piece of clothing that can effortlessly transition from daywear to eveningwear can be even harder. As the United States transitions away from Covid-19 protocols and quarantines, work is shifting from remote to in-person. School is moving from online to in-person, and leisure activities like concerts and parties are becoming a social norm again. It can be overwhelming to try and shop for work clothes (day wear) and proper attire for date nights (evening wear) because the costs can quickly add up. Buying clothing for both daytime and nighttime can prove to be frustrating, expensive, and inefficient. The next time you are shopping for both daywear and eveningwear, shift your focus to looking for transition pieces: pieces that can be appropriate for your daytime use, but when paired with another piece, can be appropriate for eveningwear as well.

This concept can be difficult to visualize, so let's think of a few examples. A blazer, when paired with black slacks and a nice blouse, can be appropriate daywear for any corporate events or meetings you might need to attend. If you are going out to dinner with your friends later that night, simply bring a t-shirt and a pair of jeans with you in your bag. When the time comes, you can swap the business slacks and blouse for the t-shirt and jeans. Throw on the blazer and you've got an eveningwear outfit that is classy, casual, and sophisticated all at the same time. Another example can be the humble sundress. Paired with a conservative cardigan, simple jewelry, and some nice flats, this fun outfit is perfect for springtime in the office. Got a date after work? Remove the cardigan, switch out your shoes, and try out a fun, flirty lipstick shade! You'll be ready for your date in no time.

The next time you are out shopping for clothing and accessories, look for options that can seamlessly transition from daywear to evening wear in the women's apparel section of your favorite department store. Doing so will enable you to have multiple outfits for different occasions (think date night, concert, conference call, corporate trade shows) all without breaking the bank. Keep your focus on the idea of transition: what pieces do you already have at home that you can pair this with? How can you use this piece for both daywear and eveningwear? Is this a piece that you can appropriately wear for multiple events or occasions?
